dawn at Lake Ella

4/5/2021 – Monday

Perhaps the doubling up on the vodka last night was a little much-ish, as I totally crashed out and slept in late. Still, we got out of the house before 7 a.m., which is find since today is a WFH day.

I should be enjoying these days more, as the time is coming soon when we will be ordered back into the office whether we need to be there or not.

I have a lot of negative feelings about that, and it is honestly so weird to see life in this city just returning to “normal” while I still have friends in other parts of the world going into third, fourth lockdowns because of a few new cases/deaths. Here in Florida it’s just a free-for-all for death and misery, we’ve had over 2 million cases and nearly 35,000 deaths and my county’s adult ICU availability is down to 2% but who cares, no one cares, it’s everyone going out to the bars and Walmart and the uni campuses.

But my bitching about it makes no difference.

It was a nice morning anyway, only about 50°F and low humidity. The burr season is back, and Keely’s very cottony fur picks them up by the dozens, so it’s fun to pick them out of her fur when we get home. She knows enough to try and avoid grassy areas this time of year, though.

Since the sun was almost up (barely cresting the trees) it was bright enough to reveal this little fella hanging out in the yard of a house that faces the park:bear in a yard

How long has he been there? I have no idea, because usually when we walk this route it’s dark out and there is no light shining on this particular yard. Is he a guardian? I do wonder. Looks like he might have been carved out of a piece of an old utility pole, which I would love if true.
