dawn at Lake Ella

6/15/2022 – Wednesday

My computer is running slowly this morning, I suspect due to a Windows update (whyyyyyyy) but that’s par for the course, as I am running slowly as well. Mostly because I was up until near midnight with a friend, hanging out, talking about everything but especially things like “what is a home?” and “families are whacky/difficult/infuriating” and that next year will be my father’s 100th birthday (were he still alive).

(That’s right, I am literally two generations removed from the U.S. Civil War, as my grandmother (born: 1898) was the daughter of a Civil War veteran (Confederate, natch). So don’t be listening to anyone who tells you “that’s so long ago it doesn’t matter” because hooooooo boy let me tell you that it does. Another fun fact is that my father was born in the year marked as the high-water point of activity of the Ku Klux Klan in the 20th century…which tracks when you know that my grandfather (an alcoholic, violent, abusive asshole) was a member. That is a whole lot of YIKES but it’s my heritage and I’m the one left to wrestle with it.)

Anyway, I was up late so slept in, meaning Keely and I did not get out of the house until 6:55 am. We had a major storm roll through last night, and humidity this morning was still 97%, so everything was damp and Keely was not pleased about that. She kept trying to scuttle off the sidewalk to walk in the street, because it’s drier. My petty, spoiled princess!!!! 😒

Here have some palmettos:
