The heat has been miserable — it was still a heat index of 110°F at 5:00 pm in the afternoon yesterday. Getting out early and late is critical, because Keely simply cannot take the heat + sun. Who can? It’s not even August yet, which is mind-blowing. Also the storms moving through are doing so with less warning and fiercer impact than in years past. What is truly weird is the rolling thunder, which goes on for minutes at a time. I’ve lived in Florida since 1984, storms and hurricanes included, and I don’t remember weather quite like this. I guess its just the world we live in now.
Keely and I made it out by around 6:30 am this morning, so while it was already 75°F (heat index: 78°F, even without the sun up, because the humidity was 97%) it was not intolerable. Keely missed her walk last night because the rain lingered. The result of course is that everything is still damp this morning, so she dragged me across the street from Lake Ella to walk through people’s yards to avoid getting to close to Big Nasty Puddle (as I imagine she has named Lake Ella).
I did not grab my camera so this is a phone shot, but I like the “Americana” of it all. Behold the famously barren Circle K, which was also low on gas this morning as several pumps had run out. Gonna be an interesting hurricane season, fer sure.
