dawn at Lake Ella

1/26/2023 – Thursday

It was just chilly enough that neither me or Keely wanted to roll out of bed before 6:00am for a walk in the dark…but we did, at least, we did by 6:30am. Dawn was peeking over the trees:

view eastward over Lake Ella with the sky lightening in the background.

The storm yesterday was very fierce (tornado warning! which most everyone ignored) but the worst of it did not last long, and we mostly suffered a day of heavy rain. You can’t tell from the photo but Lake Ella is fully replenished, although still far from overflowing. I did not see the direfish but there was one heron with a small fish hanging out of it’s mouth. It just stared at Keely from where it stood in the water, as if daring my dog, who to the best of my knowledge does not know fish are edible, to steal it.

In unrelated news, the price of a box of Publix unbreaded hot wings from the deli is now $18, which I find shocking, although a friend pointed out that if you do a cost-per-piece breakdown it’s not unreasonable. I think it’s more the short time frame of the price skyrocketing, which is all due to the same reasons eggs are precious commodities these days. I’m starting to appreciate my father’s reactions to the cost of things, back in the day.

Now I’m off to review notes for recording the next episodes of the Around the Writer’s Table podcast! We’re late recording this month, which means a time crunch for our producer (me. it’s me, I’m the producer) but earlier attempts at recording ended in disaster, for which we are blaming the multiple large solar flares from earlier this month. Wish us luck!
