In the U.S. today, it is MLK Day, so most government and quasi-government orgs have the day off. Therefore here I am with a day to sleep in and then take Keely for an extra-long walk!
She deserved one because I made her wait to go out until the sun was starting to rise. It was 38°F when we first woke up, but fortunately she is fairly easy to bribe back to sleep with the promise of a warm bed and some belly rubs. We finally got out around 7:45 am when the sun was cresting the pines, and while it was still in the early 40s temperature-wise, it was not bone-chillingly cold. Keely certainly enjoyed it! Here she is, looking golden in the dawn, my precious babe:
And before you get on me for not brushing her out, I DID! Her fur is so cotton-y that it start matting up within, like, minutes. *cries in dog-owner*
I got in a long run listening to my latest audio book, The Bright Ages, which is great for correcting a lot of modern misunderstandings of what the “dark ages” really were, and when they were, and why they were. Some of it I know already, having followed classicists and medievalists on twitter for a long while, but it’s an entertaining read and does provide a lot of new theory/history I was unaware of. It’s my favorite kind of non-fiction read!
My to-do list grows long, so while it is ostensibly a holiday, it is a work day for me. Off I go, with coffee in hand and portable heater at my feet….
