dawn at Lake Ella

1/29/2022 – Saturday

When we got up at 7 am the weather app said “34°F degrees but FEELS LIKE 24°F” which is just a big NOPE from me. I mean, we went for a walk anyway, but I made the rookie mistake of going for a walk around Lake Ella to keep it short and forgetting that 1) it’s a 25ft drop in altitude from my apartment and 2) it’s a big body of water that wind can whip across. It was cold.

However I got a nice shot of dawn, with the wind whipping through the spanish moss (this one’s for you, Tedi!) and the water. It’s not particularly artistic but eh, captures the “winter in Florida” mood I was going for.

Keely, like the good Northern European mongrel dog stock she is from, loved it and kept trying to drag me in the opposite direction when I aimed for home. Mind you I’m also a Northern European mongrel, but one who has lived too long in Florida (*sobs*) and so I am not acclimated to such chilly weather and do not have a shaggy fur coat to help. Too bad for me, it’s apparently going to be even colder tomorrow morning, yippee.

In other news, the old Fox & Stag bar is becoming a restaurant, as I suspected. It’s another hipster name too: “Lemon & Thyme”. Same owners as The Black Radish? I gotta wonder! I’ll try to get photos of their signs for posterity’s sake at some point.

I am now very bundled up in my studio, which by the way is a chaotic mess since I moved my desk. I kinda hate that but as things stand I can’t do much about it until I can afford to rent a storage space to put a lot of stuff into. I haven’t really had any closets since I moved in because they are full of my inheritance…since 1996 I’ve thought “I’ll be able to unpack the good china once I have an actual house to decorate and live in!!!” …and we see how well that plan has gone. Not that I particularly want to be a home owner? But I’d like to live in more than 600 sq. feet. Someday.
