Monday again!!!??!?! How?????
While last weekend was spend in a nyquil haze of chest cold misery, this weekend was just…lazy! So now I am here on Monday again wondering why I did not get anything done over the weekend while simultaneously knowing that I mostly slept, read, ate, and napped the whole time.
The chaos of adulthood.
This morning is was back on schedule for our morning walk. Keely was feeling fine again and doing her usual start/stop/sniff/start routine all around the park. Lake Ella is dipping low again, as we have not had a lot of rain for the past two weeks and looks like we won’t be getting too much in the next few weeks either.
Which means I have taken to watering the new trees my landlord has bizarrely had planted out front of our complex. “Bizarrely” because my landlord is a nice guy who is just barely one step above a slum-lord, and “improving property values” is not on his radar. He’ll cut down pine trees when they become dangerous and after a lot of pestering, but in general he does the minimal amount to scrape by the fire code regulations. Which is fine, it keeps rent cheap for me.
But now these three poor Eastern Redbud saplings have been thunked down in the ground and then simply left to die for mysterious reasons. So, after realizing this, I am now watering them in hopes they make it through the month. We’ve got at least another month and a half of warmer weather so I think if they survive they will take for the long term. *crosses fingers*
I’ve wondered how my landlord is doing during this economic crisis, but had a moment of enlightenment recently: nearly everyone in this complex is on some sort of government support, either social security or veteran’s retirement/benefits. I’m pretty sure only myself and one other woman are actually working stiffs, but we’ve also both been here for years so clearly we aren’t moving. It means that our landlord does not get a lot of rent from us over all, but it is almost guaranteed that he will get rent no matter what the economic situation.
Honestly I wondered for a long time why he didn’t go for charging more and attracting either students or young professionals, but they would be high turnover and probably cost him more in maintenance. He’s been doing this for decades now and I can’t fault the logic.
As I said, keeps rent low for me, and that’s important too.
