dawn at Lake Ella

10/5/2020 – Monday

I am not in the mood to write today, and I feel as if I have nothing new or interesting to say about a morning walk I take every day with the relentlessness of the weather itself.

But I suppose that simply doing it anyway is the point of such a practice, to fill in the spaces where we do not know or understand the weaknesses of our skill. After all, sometimes I truly do not know what I think until I’ve written it out.

In compensation for my meanderings, please enjoy this photo I took last night of a neighbor’s Halloween decoration that made me laugh!

Back to this morning, it was, at least, a cool and pleasant walk. Since it is technically a work day, even if I am working from home more often than not, we took our usual route around Lake Ella. A few more people were out than yesterday, no surprise there, and the crossfit gym at the old Purdue Auto building was bustling. A typical Monday morning.

We are sliding into the slower part of the term for me — the first half is always a rush of busy work, but now I mostly focus on more involved projects at my own, leisurely pace. There are always fires to put out but most of those happen at higher levels and I only have to help with the fallout, which suits me.

Still, I sit here before 8 am with my tea and regrets, stressed about politics and the pandemic, with little energy to face the day.

*sips tea* Is this what getting old feels like?
