dawn at Lake Ella

11/21/2020 -Saturday

Slept in again this morning, so the sun was well and truly up by the time we got out the door at 7:40 am. Later in our walk it gave me the chance to take this photo of the old Perdue garage, half of which was remodeled for the crossfit gym and half of which…was not. Very much not.

But now?

Seems that some work is going on, and the bay doors have been open since yesterday. Evidence of human work efforts are scattered around inside (small wheelbarrows, a full trashcan, a pile of swept up dirt) but nothing to suggest what is going on. Is the gym expanding? Is something else moving in? Given the sign placement I suspect the former.

Otherwise it was a typical weekend jaunt, Keely dragging me over to 3rd Ave. then up Duval to the Publix plaza. Given that the morning was in full swing, we saw a lot of people walking, jogging, and driving around. A typical Saturday morning with the Publix parking lot already starting to fill up.

I think sometimes that this is how my grandmother remembered the 1918 pandemic, and how my father remembered the Great Depression: regular days passing by with a gloss of uncertainty and wariness on top. Will things get better today? Stay the same? Get worse? What is going to happen next? Either way we still go to buy groceries and walk the dog, go to work and sleep late on the weekend.
