It’s Monday, although it doesn’t feel that way after all these days off from the day!job…it’s just another day. Which, I think, I like better. I’ve always thought the “living for the weekend” lifestyle to be abnormal and stifling.
But as it is Monday After the Holidays, there was a lot more traffic on the road when we got out for our walk at around 7 a.m.! It makes me realize that am feeling very conflicted about 2022. I expect a lot of change (mostly good!) and I’m so very tired of this 2020/2021 Depression Double Feature, but on the other hand change is scary.
What doesn’t change, though, are the Tallahassee Police Department’s Zombie Roses:
They bloom all year. ALL. YEAR. They bloom constantly. If there are days were at least one plant (out of about 20, I think) isn’t blooming, I missed it. This is some kind of foul magic, honestly, even if the results are pretty. You have to know that Tallahassee is roughly Hardiness Zone 8 for growing, so while not outside the best range for roses, definitely not the best either.
Even more interesting? In the 15 years I’ve lived here (yikes), I have never NOT ONCE seen anyone tending those roses. Not to fertilize or trim or replant or mulch. Not even once. And yes, for a while I have had a day job that took me away from home during the weekdays but that’s not always been the case (ref. quarantimes).
It’s like these roses grow themselves and never stop growing blooming and yet never take over the world, and that’s just odd, okay?
