Keely was either on the scent of the Lake Ella Fox or she was just distracted the whole way ’round the pond! There was lots of weaving to and fro.
The night was a bit chilly and yet it is getting up into the 70s°F by noon, and nature is taking it as her cue to start releasing ALL the pollen! The pine pollen is everywhere, giving the whole place a nasty yellow tinge, but worse by far are the pollens we can actually breathe in (oak? weeds? whatEVER) and creating a sinus catastrophe, at least for me! I had to go back on flonase which I have to do every spring, and as I commented elsewhere, I’m not sure why this is such a surprise to me every year. I’ve been getting sinus infections at best and bronchitis at worst for literally four decades now.
Perhaps I just live in denial as well as in Florida.
This photo makes spring look bright and cheery, though:
I took it last weekend when walking up Monroe St. and like the effect of the light.
Out there in the world, a whole mess of a disaster is falling on my alma mater, New College of Florida, which likely anyone reading this already knows. It’s a tragedy and I’m grateful that people are rallying to support the school! The thing that really guts me, though, is less this special case but what it represents: our governor’s full-bore attack on education at all levels. We sink deeper into fascism and I’m really struck by the adage (paraphrased, I can’t find the original!), “30% of the people around you want to kill you and another 30% of the people around you will let them.”
