You may or may not have noticed that I did not update for a couple of days. The fact is that I was at a crossroads with this blog — not in regards to writing it, which I plan to continue, but concerning the matter of keeping it hosted on Substack.
This platform is super easy to use and I’ve liked that aspect of it a lot. It’s got a clean interface and that makes writing easy. I tend to over-engineer blog posts, distracted by the bells and whistles of creating and maintaining my own websites.
But then multiple truths started coming out about the company, including the unpleasant fact that they have become a harbor for writers of bigotry and hate speech. My belief and faith in the postulate of “free speech” carries with it the understanding that being free to speech means accepting the consequences of that action, including being criticized and deplatformed. Substack corporate is not accepting the role of moderator of their own site, and that is not acceptable to me.
I ran into a similar situation back when I first started using Medium, which eventually pushed me off that platform as well.
That means it is time to put some effort into using my own domain for Keely’s Way. I have a website (several, in fact) which I can use. However, I need to do a lot of housekeeping and development to do it easily going forward.
Those of you who have subscribed will still get emails, once I’ve set it all up, but they will look different. Those who read via rss feed (anyone?) will have to change the address. Likely, you will get emails for both Keely’s Way updates and general blog updates, although I might be able to segment the list. More things I have to sort out. *sigh*
Anyway, thanks for hanging in while I ramble on every day.
