dawn at Lake Ella

3/4/2022 – Friday, the aftermath

Leaving work yesterday was a low-key affair. At 4:30 pm, my friend KimMC was there to pick me up. I had only the small desk lamp and my shawl left to gather up, as I had slowly emptied my office of personal belongings over the previous days. I said goodbye to the two staff members who were actually there and slid out the door.

It always surprises me, even after all these years, how momentous events feel so mundane as they slip on by.

I did write this on the whiteboard, though:

goodbye, whiteboard!

My last day of the FSU Epoch was spent mostly bored, although I did work the front desk for a bit (due to the department being understaffed) and completing a few final projects, and setting my out-of-office message. Turned that on at 3:30 pm! (I’m such a rebel!)

Which all means today’s walk started at 7 am instead of 5:30-ish, and I did not feel rushed or mind-numb the whole morning, and I did not have to go out ride a germ-ridden bus. Okay, true enough that such is no different than any other recent Friday as I have been taking them off, but still…it feels different, now. The path in front of me seems wider and brighter, even it if will be challenging.

Didn’t hurt that the weather today is gorgeous, bright and only about 55°F. There were surprisingly few people around Lake Ella, but Keely was going through it as she chased down her elusive nemesis, the Nefarious Fox (who is, in turn, enjoying the bounty of spring i.e. harassing the duck broods).

A good start to a good day.
