Another later morning, out by 7:30 am and the sun was already cresting over the tree tops. Not as cold as yesterday, either, and still covered by a bright blue sky. My favorite days in Florida, to be honest.
I’m still (still?!?!?!???) not 100% recovered from the stomach flu (da fuq!!!!) so I was dragging along as Keely pranced her merry way through the streets and byways. An interesting thing about early Sunday mornings is that traffic is heavier but fewer people are out than on Saturdays. I attribute that to the church-goers, who are the majority population here in the South.
I would say that nothing changes along these walks but as I noticed the new “for sale” sign stuck in the parking lot of an empty building, I realized that is not true. It is simply that most changes are incremental — a tree is cut down on a corner, a business closes quietly, for lease/sale signs go up and down, grass is cut and re-cut and replaced with anemic bushes. A chair that sat outside the Joy Luck Palace restaurant for, possibly, years somehow got broken. It is still there, just collapsed from a cracked leg. I assume it will be gone soon.
Sometimes a change makes a splash, such as the replacement of the Wine Loft with the Over/Under bar lounge, but often I don’t even see something until it has changed.
