4/23/2022 – Saturday & Keely vet update!

Yesterday was a busy morning so I did not get around to updating this blog. It was busy because I had to take Keely to the vet. Nothing urgent, but she was wayyyyyy overdue for her annual exam, and given her history, I did not want to wait too long much longer.

Here is Keely looking stoic and resigned in the exam room:

Overall, she’s doing well! Back and hips are strong, and her teeth are okay. She did have a UTI, which as usual she gave me no clue about. Even when she was dying from that immunocompromised issue in 2019 she acted totally fine, so short of her just refusing to go for a walk or something I’d never know if she’s feeling bad. She’s got some meds for that, one might be long-term due to her age and slight incontenence issues, but she loves taking her meds because I always wrap them in yummies like cream cheese or peanut butter.

Of course the most traumatic part of the whole thing was when the vet dared to clip her nails. Oh, the suffering!!! *rolls eyes heavenwards*

She also lost a lot of weight, but that was by design; she put on 8 pounds during our lockdown in 2020, which for a usually-30 pound dog is A LOT. The problem was that when I started working from home I just didn’t keep track of all the snacks I was feeding her. I cut back on the snacks and she’s back down to 28 pounds. I’d like to keep her at 30, that seems a good weight and what the vet recommends, so I’m upping her food a tiny bit and she is DELIGHTED.
