dawn at Lake Ella

4/25/2023 – Tuesday, and where is Keely?

Have no fear! Keely is currently barking at the front door after I accidentally loaded a browser tab that auto-played a loud vid. It’s the intention that counts, okay?

But on that note, what is the intention of Keely’s Way? This blog started a few years ago as a daily writing practice, first as 10 minutes a day then switching to 250 words a day. In that it was mostly successful, although there were a few breaks during the depth of the pandemic. At some point I also started incorporating daily photographs, usually taken with my phone as I walked about town.

As you may have noticed, it’s far from daily anymore. So, what’s going on? What’s the plan?

One of the motivations to start this project was to get back into a regular writing habit. It was successful, but as I’ve once again incorporated writing regularly in my life, I also started elevating my goals with it. Writing even more, as it were. 😁

I currently have my weekly All the Tasks Fit to Print newsletter focusing on productivity and task management issues for solopreneurs, for one thing. But a much bigger thing is happening, that is the rejuvenation of my career as an author. Once one of my main goals in life, it fell by the wayside once I got a “proper, adult job” with FSU after finishing my master’s degree. It was a victim of misplaced priorities and the algorithm-driven publishing industry that grew out of ‘zon and the self-publishing revolution.

I believe with all my heart that big changes are happening yet again to the “book” industry. It’s becoming more solidly the “story” industry and I think with subscription models individual authors like me will be able to nurture a community of readers and fans who are willing to support ME and MY stories. As the saying goes, you only need 1,000 people giving you $100 a year to make a comfortable living. I do not want to worry about rankings and bestseller lists and trying to game the algorithm to “see” my books.

Which means I’ll post to Keely’s way occassionally, but my creative energies are being directed toward my stories. You can keep up with me by joining the House of York platform, or by following me on Substack.

In the meantime, here is a photo of the sign that has replaced the Farms Stores sign at the old Shell station at 5 points in Midtown. Drive-Thru Barbeque? Haven’t seen any evidence of future barbequing yet, the place is still mostly a storage unit for Vino Beano, but we’ll see…
