dawn at Lake Ella

4/30/2020

Like most people, I feel like April really sped by me, despite some personal issues with grief and remembrances. It has hit me that spring is well underway, though, since by the time we finished our walk it was just after 6 am and dawn was already starting to creep over the horizon.

Because we got out so early, we beat the Duck Whisperer and actually got a very emphatic “take CARE of yourself!!!!” from Good Morning Guy, who I haven’t seen in a while due to not being out quite this early.

The Loner was there, too — which makes me wonder how long she walks, as I see her any time I am out between 5:30 am and 7:30 am. It’s clear she takes it very seriously, but it is also clear that she’s not an athlete in training. She just walks for a couple of hours every morning. The habits that make up a person.

It rained hard yesterday evening but apparently also early this morning, as everything was still damp and dripping despite the lower humidity. I saw these leaves with clinging water and thought I’d try to be artistic about it. Or try, at least? Hmmm

It was a nice empty world otherwise, traffic still low to non-existent on Monroe. It’s not that it feels like the city is in stasis (far from it!) but rather that it is holding its breath, the arteries of roads just waiting for oxygen that, I fear, will not come anytime soon. Even with the absurd and dangerous plan by our governor to “phase in” re-opening the state (what a joke, as we were never truly shut down), I don’t think most people will be in any rush to go back to how things used to be.
