I woke up to a severe thunderstorm warning and crisp, clear skies. Oh, Florida…
I know it rained before we got out at 5:30 a.m. because everything was wet and puddles abounded. Keely practiced water-aversion by keeping to the outer edge of the sidewalk all the way around the pond. None of this bothered me because the aftermath also gave us a cool breeze or two to enjoy.
The fox must have been making rounds as well, since despite what had obviously been a hard downpour earlier (to go by the downed tree branches everywhere) Keely would occasionally jerk her leash and drag me over to some non-descript spot and plant her nose there for a while before following it like a blood hound to a tree or bush. There was much dragging to be had as I tried to keep her moving along and she kept tracking her nemesis!
This photo is from a few days ago but the table is still around, although it seems to move randomly to a different location every day:
It won’t be long before it gets real water damage and starts falling apart, at this rate. I assume it is a discarded table from KB Cafe (is it open? I don’t know, I’ve never seen evidence of it, but then I’m never here during the hours it would be open) but why is it out here, all by its lonesome? Why does it keep getting moved around? Why wasn’t it hauled away? Is it actually serving some kind of purpose, or are the owners of the cafe just hoping that someone will carry it away for them?
Such are the little mysteries of daily living that get overlooked and eventually forgotten.
Otherwise it was a quiet morning, the previous rainfall obviously scaring away all the other regulars. One guy who is becoming a regular was there jogging, but he was it…aside from one or two homeless people wandering through. The city got its way, banishing the homeless from the park by ripping up the picnic pavilions and installing hostile architecture everywhere. I’m sure someone, somewhere thinks that “out of sight, out of mind” is a valid social management strategy. I just think it’s tragic and, ultimately, damning.
