For some strange reason my brain did not want to “shut down” last night so I experienced a very unusual bout of insomnia. While it is something my mother dealt with on a daily basis, it is not an issue I inherited from her; instead I take after my father, who could and did fall asleep pretty much when and where he wanted to. But not last night! I was up at midnight which has not happened since, uh… *checks calendar* New Year’s Eve!
As you can imagine, I was slow to start this morning, but habit is hard to break and we were out the door by 6:30 am. The up side is that the sun was dawning gloriously over the tree tops:
That was taken using my Canon, which definitely does capture the colors better than my android phone. That photo was cropped and sharpened a bit but is otherwise not messed with. Right now I’m still relying on “auto” for settings and focus, just to get the feel of what I’m doing.
I also realized that my digital asset management is a MESS. I’ve had websites since 1996, and I have taken a lot of photos over the years, and I also started publishing books in 2012. Everything is scattered across hard drives, back up hard drives, Google Drive, Dropbox, laptops, and even thumb drives…mostly because I often did personal work while on the clock at my jobs (NO REGRETS) so I had to stash things where I could get to them. Fifteen+ years later, the resulting mess is…messy.
I tried out Adobe Bridge (free, but, you know: Adobe) but it only handles assets stored locally (that is, on my main hard drive). No bueno. I’m now trying out PhotothecaX, and I really like it. It does not move files, just pulls their data into the program…in the same way a library catalogue doesn’t consist of the actual books, it just tells you what and where they are. I still need to sort through thumb drives and my portable external drives, but that’s a task for another day!
