Another super-humid morning as summer truly settles in for the long haul. At least we were out well before sunrise! There is more rain expected to come in later, which may or may not impact Keely’s walk schedule. My observation is that rain conjecture by the weather bureau has been off for a long while; every time we are told we are going to get a drenching, we barely get a splash of rain. Amusingly, the local superstition is that the mag-lab acts as a repellant to bad weather. Who knows! I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt at this point…
Walking around the pond was an exercise in avoiding the always-traumatic duck sex going on, but for all the energy they are putting into it, there are no broods to be seen. I did see one a couple of weeks ago but they vanished, I am assuming due to predators since the weather has been relatively stable. Which could mean predators are extra desperate, or that they have grown in population. Possibly both? I have not seen the local foxes lately either, for what it’s worth.
I also have not seen Duck Guy, who used to park his truck around 5:30-6:00 and walk around the pond feeding the ducks. He always feeds them bread, which is terrible for them, but we never talked so I had no way of trying to tell him that without coming across as a jerk. I realized this morning that I have not seen him in quite a while, possibly a couple of months? I hope he is okay.
Since it has been a while since I posted a photo of Keely, here is one from earlier this week of her looking VERY judgmental in my bedroom door. She had decided that it was time for her to go on a walk and this is how she lets me know, by staring at me intently with a disappointed air. *sad face*
