dawn at Lake Ella

6/6/2021 – Sunday

Well into June already? It does feel a lot like the last year was a fever dream. As we walked by the Golden Corral I saw that they were getting ready to open for breakfast, which they have just recently started serving again. A year ago it was simply closed. Wild times.

Overall though the walk was uneventful. It was not too hot, and we were out by 7 am, but the humidity was already fierce and by the time we made it home by 8 am the sun’s heat was starting to be felt. I’m feeling uninspired these days, in so many ways, but in this case I mean in regards to taking photos. Instead have this interesting shot from my vacation days, of a decorative pineapple on a fence along Gadsden:

The house it belongs to is such a mystery to me. It looks more like a business office from one side, and a house from the other. It’s massive, and seems attached to a large indoor pool building. I wondered for a while, a long time ago, if it was a small boarding school? But I’ve never actually seen people there, much less kids. The yard is not well kept up, just enough to keep it from becoming overgrown. There are a few houses that are mystery houses (I’ve mentioned on in Los Robles, but I think that one has settled into an actual homestead) and this one is the most intriguing. I almost fear learning the truth about it, which can never compare to my imaginings.

Keely is not asleep on our bed, sprawled out as she always does after longer walks. I’ve got plans for today — finish assembling the bathroom etagere, and then wrap up the Great Tidy Up by cleaning up my desk and putting up all the tools. I’m still not 100% on the layout of the Burial Mounds but I only have so much space to work with. Goal for 2021: finish out the year with an actual storage unit to put crap into!
