dawn at Lake Ella

6/28/2020 – Sunday

Ahhh, summer continues its slow, relentless assault. While it was still below 80°F when we got out around 7:30 am, it was also humid. As Poppa would say, a “pea soup” kind of feel to the air: thick and viscous. Bleargh.

Keely is showing her age, walking slowly through the heat. I worry for her of course but she’s fine otherwise and would have liked to have kept going, but 45 minutes later I was done in. It’s what I get for not drinking a lot of water before heading out.

I made her wait for her breakfast, though, until she was not panting so hard. I am so cruel, at least according to her metrics, and I got the “I turn my back to thee!” treatment while I made my coffee!

We headed south on Thomasville Rd. down to 3rd Ave. as usual and passed by O’Hara Electric and their weird tall fences, which apparently are getting a makeover?

The “O” in “town” is outlined, so I suppose it will be painted in later. My best guess as to these fences have to do with zoning laws, since they have parked some very big and fugly storage containers on site. I’m…I’m not convinced the big and fugly fences are an improvement, but this is why I am not in government?

Last night was quiet for a Saturday in Midtown, due a lot to the covid19 situation and the bars/restaurants shutting down for in-service and going back to take-out only. This morning, though, seemed like a fairly average Sunday morning. Are churches back to in-person services? Wouldn’t surprise me around here; I’ve pretty much lost my faith in the humanity of most Floridians.

I know I sound jaded but I’m checking the stats every day with a growing sense of horror. I can only hope that the changing demographics mean we’ll be spared the worst of it, but what is happening in Texas suggests that’s not the case.

So, we wait.
