dawn at Lake Ella

6/30/2020 – Tuesday

Another and another of hot, humid mornings. We’ve traveled past summer solstice so I keep waiting for days to get shorter already but that won’t make a difference to the weather so I should just gracefully submit to the inevitable sticky heat we are getting for the next four months.

I have mentioned that the mosquitoes are back in force so I’m soaking myself in bug spray, but clearly not enough as I now have three (3!!!!) bug bites along my right calf. Life is so unfair.

Keely was super patient with me as I was super slow this morning — age and lack of exercise catching up with me, making me creak and groan and squint at morning hours. I’m always amused at people who are impressed that I get up so early, because where they see structure and adulting, there is only a long lag time for my brain to engage. My father was the same, he would get up at 4:30 am every morning then spend two hours laboriously turning on the mental processes one at a time with coffee, cigarettes, and a newspaper.

For me, it’s coffee, aspirin, and dog walks.

(Mother was not a morning person either, but she instead just slept through it.)

It was a pretty morning, despite the bugs and my lethargy. A crisp hint of dawn and clear skies made everything sparkling in the early-morning violet light.

I have not been wearing a mask during my dog walks, but I’m considering it. As of Friday, when I was tested, I am negative for covid19, but people are not practicing social distancing too well even in the middle of an open park and wide sidewalks. It’s no fun wearing masks in the heat, I’ll admit that, but bigger forces are in play.

No worthy photos of late so here, have an older one, a view from my bed of Keely looking at me expectantly for her before-bedtime treat! (yes that is sunlight, despite the fact this was taken a little before 9 pm. Summer. I hate it.)
