It was overall an erratic weekend for sleep, for no concrete reasons but a lot of mental ones…the stress of living in such “interesting times” is, I think, eating at me even though there is little I can do overall to change things. We are being “run” right into the ground by fascists obsessed with money and white supremacism, and meanwhile tens of thousands of people die for many, many reasons. Okay.
So yeah. Sleep. Not so good.
Which is why I was so slow to rise this morning, not even rousing when Keely belly flopped on me when she got tired of waiting. We did not head out for our walk until 7 am, and I have to be log into day!job at 8 am, so you see: running late!
On the way back from the park, I verified my suspicion that traffic is way down. This is me standing in the middle of 7th Ave. facing Monroe St. (facing east, in other words) and that there is the rush hour traffic du jour:
The fact that I could stand in the middle of what is generally an around-the-clock busy road says a lot on its own.
Circle K remains busy, and people are finally wearing masks (only took a city ordinance! FFS), but indeed the city is doing some serious self-imposed lock-downs I think. Midtown Caboose (a diner/burger joint) was open last night and usually Sunday night is fairly busy with families out for a meal but it definitely was not.
Keely is now resting on my bed — she skipped breakfast again, which would normally worry me, but I really do think this is due to her overheating on our walks. Last few times this happened she got up and ate her food after a couple of hours napping. It was only upper-70 degrees, but humidity made the air heavy. The heat weighs down like a damp, smelly overcoat.
Gonna be a long summer.
