There was nothing noteworthy that came to my mind to take a photo of this morning so here, have a very flat doggo napping post-walk on my bed, as is her right:
We got out before the heat really hit, but it was still in the high 70s°F and humid. More of the same, muggy and damp and moist. Especially before dawn, and the sun has not started to burn off the worst of it (replacing it with, well, sunlight so there is always a trade off!).
I have not seen much activity at the Chandler House lately, it has remained mostly dark and empty whenever I walk by in the mornings. However I did notice a semi-trailer parked behind it, which could be for moving or storage. Obviously things continue to brew there, although still no external signage to indicate what.
KB Kitchen remains unopened as of yet (over a year now with “open soon!”), so the owner must have money to burn paying rent for the cottage. The other cottage businesses are holding on, including the newly relocated Avant Garb, with reduced hours and social distancing/mask signs in place. Better than nothing, I suppose! But as with most things these days, I wonder at the long term repercussions.
We all want to return to normal, but “normal” is as slippery a goal to grasp as it always was. I want my local businesses to survive and thrive, but I also want my fellow citizens to survive and thrive too.
It should not be a contest.
