dawn at Lake Ella

7/24/2020 – Friday

Despite staying up too late watching the c-drama “Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty” (which is delightful!), I woke up on time! Which made the walk almost like old pre-pandemic times, done in the early morning pre-dawn hours.

It was, predictably, an empty park for the most part. I try to catalog the changes, but at this time of year the variables are “raining” vs. “not raining” layered over “hot, hotter, hottest.”

Keely was in a slow mood, compared to her animated gait yesterday. She really avoided the grass, as per usual after a rain storm, stayed to the outer edge of the sidewalk, and stopped a lot. These whimsies of hers, I do not understand!

Golden Corral remains closed, and KB Cafe continues to be “opening soon.” There are “masks required” on all the doors of the cottages, though.

I looked in on the Barber Shop and I saw that the station for my barber, Brielle, looks cleared out. I really adore her and she’s a fantastic barber/stylist, so I hope she’s landed in a safe place for her and her kids. I practically have watched them grow up (through photos) for the past ten years, so I feel a little invested.

And these ripples go out through our community, some people just disappearing and others clinging to what they can by any means possible. That seems to be a part of modern living, I guess…how many people whom I was friends with before 9/11 do I keep in contact with now? A few, on facebook, but not in any intimately friendly way.

The communities of the poor are very transient and porous.
