Yesterday was a blur of productivity so I crashed hard last night. Spent some time catching up with my friend Ada via zoom but generally blundered around lethargically in a haze of brain exhaustion. Wheeee!
But after a good night’s sleep, we’re off and running again. …well, not running but walking the dog. She kindly let me sleep in until almost 7:00 am, then got mad at me because the ground was still damp from the rains yesterday. I cannot win!
All the scooters are back, herding together like the geese do. It’s funny except it’s not; they get replaced at some dark hour of the night, and set up here:
But this photo of harmless scooters waiting for riders to have some fun? It’s actually a photo of late-stage capitalism and the failure of society.
How so? Because that concrete square used to hold a picnic table. That table was removed as an anti-homeless measure, so now visitors to Lake Ella public park have no place to sit. Now, the for-profit scooter rental venture has a nice place to set up their scooters, at public cost. Also, if you look to the left, there is a short post, and beyond that another slab of concrete which seems weird unless you know it used to have a bench there too, also removed as an anti-homeless measure.
Cruelty is the point, after all. As a society, we’ve sold our souls so someone else can profit. It’s grim.
