This morning Keely hustled me out of the door by 7 am, so while it was still oppressively humid the sun was not shining down on us. She was really happy to take lead and we ended up doing a full hour, walking the whole route from 7th over to 3rd via back roads, then up Monroe to Publix, around Publix, and then trekked south on Duval back to 7th and home.
We were both damp by the time we returned to blessed air conditioning!
Along the way I saw a fair amount of pink spray on the sidewalks.
This photo is from Lake Ella but it is showing up sporadically elsewhere too. They appear every couple of years and, I have discovered, indicate places where the sidewalk needs to be fixed, usually by grinding it down so it is even but occasionally by digging up and replacing the concrete. I’m sure it’s mostly a liability issue they have to fix but I do like some evidence of our local government taking care of public spaces. It benefits everyone.
Nothing else of particular note, other than the standard: Circle K was busy, the crossfit gym was full of people working out without wearing masks, Golden Corral and Kool Beanz Cafe both remain shut down, and it looks like the furnishings for several closed bars are being sold off (Fox and Stag has 3 table tops and 10 bar stools for $400). The livelihoods of many people are trashed while health insurance companies post record profits. *sigh*
I admit I’m not feeling optimistic about this country right now, much less this state, but I dig my claws and in and hope for the best.
