Life in a hurricane state:
It looks like the panhandle area (where I live) is out of the danger zone, but that means south of us is going to get hit hard. I went through a cat3 with Charlie in ’04 and it was devastating; the house we were co-renting wasn’t totaled, but close to it, and we lost nearly everything we owned. It was a major incentive for me to move to Tallahassee in ’05, since I figured I had nothing left to lose (I did, of course…cats and a marriage and, often, hope; but here we are and do believe I’m better off than if I had stayed).
A lot of places are closed up for the week, such as the university and government offices, but I think given the current track my week will be mostly unhindered.
The best news is that it was 72°F but ONLY 58% humidity!!! Which made our morning walk absolutely pleasant. It was the same temp as yesterday morning but the humidity had bee in the 95% range so it was moist and icky. This morning was lovely. Gonna enjoy it while I can! Not quite at the “open doors and windows” stage yet, since the temp does rise fast with the sun, but close…so close…
