dawn at Lake Ella

9/4/2020 -Friday

I just realized I skipped a few days — I really need to schedule writing this BEFORE I start my work day, because saving it for “a short break” later in the morning is clearly not effective!

(Another lesson in my ongoing revelations that planning for productivity is something that evolves and changes along with our lives, our days, our hours.)

This morning’s walk was early so therefore very quiet, due to most of the regulars not being out yet. It’s interesting to be part of what is essentially an “Anonymous Community” in real-life, as opposed to online. We all know each other, we all interact regularly, but we also have no idea who we are outside of “someone who walks around Lake Ella regularly before dawn.”

There is a new business in the cottages, taking the space vacated by the tailor’s shop. It is, interestingly, not a retail establishment but a real estate office charmingly called “Big Fish Real Estate.” I have to admit having an office in the cottages is something I would do, if I ran a business like that. It’s a great location and a charming place to spend time. In better weather what could be nicer than taking a break to go walk around the pond?

The weather now, though, remains in the category of oppressive. Dog days of Summer will last through September and, given climate change, probably through October. When I first came to Tallahassee in 2005, Octobers had more cool, autumnal days than not. Coming from Orlando, I found that to be a huge selling point for my new home. I remember getting out of my car during one trip up and just standing there, marveling at the temperature difference driving a few hours north could make.

Not so much anymore, but a girl can dream.
