dawn at Lake Ella

6/25/2020 – Thursday

After the heavy rains of yesterday, this morning was suitably hot and humid, even with getting out at 6am. A friend reminded me last night that we have now passed the summer solstice, which means the dog days of summer are upon us even as the days grow shorter again.

Whatever the rain dredges up from the earth was fresh enough to still bother Keely, so she kept to the outer edge of the sidewalk the whole trip around the pond. Lake Ella remains low, even with the storms — the drought has been too long-lasting for any other result, I guess. Such strange weather over the past few years…

This photo is from a few days ago, and I had fun playing with it in GIMP to try and make the foreground flowers stand out the way they do in real life.

I do not know what the flowers ARE, but it’s a very Florida image with all the different greens and the cloudy background and the spanish moss.

Again a quiet morning, just late enough to miss the early risers but not so late that the morning joggers were out. Nothing out of place, everything calm, and I mostly practiced Mandarin and listened to an audio book while Keely was supremely suspicious of the damp trees.

I took a moment though to think about my day ahead, and promise myself to practice some self-care by avoiding the news, at least for most of the day while I’m at work. There is a fine line between being a responsible citizen and being an emotional wreck.
