dawn at Lake Ella

11/20/2020 – Friday!

It has not “been a week” for me, any more than it usually is for this trash fire we call #2k20, but I have found myself regularly walking with melancholy. As the COVID19 news gets worse and worse, and economic expectations continue to decline, I’m hard pressed to simply be in the sense of appreciating what I have in the moment.

A grim way to open this update, I know.

It is where so many of us are at, though, and it is hard not to slump into that soft underbelly of fear and anxiety even when out and about on a charming morning walk with the dog.

Perhaps it is because I slept late — the alarm(s) went off as usual, but I was lethargic and fell back asleep. Even Keely was not keen to get up, instead jumping on the bed and curling up between my feet for a time. We did get out of bed eventually, but the sun was rising by then and I had to rush out the door to get her full walk in before logging into work at 8 am!

It was a gray, wintery morning (for Florida) but I took a shot of the holiday wreaths that have gone up…poor, anemic looking things that they are.

I still had to lighten/brighten the photo a lot to have it show up in the dim morning light!

I noticed that they are only hung on the lamps that directly line a road, which is…interesting? Odd? Parsimonious? The lamps along the inner section of the sidewalk, those next to the cottages and the American Legion building, do not have decorative wreaths. Interesting.

Last night as we did our usual tour through the high-end Los Robles historic subdivision, I noticed that not many decorations are out for the holidays. It’s early yet — some people do actually restrain themselves to waiting until after Thanksgiving — but I stand by my prediction that decorating is going to be low on most people’s list of priorities these days.

Meanwhile, students pack off for home and are not due back on campus until spring. Who knows what spring will bring, eh?
