This morning my first alarm went off at 4:30 am as usual and in an unexpected act of self-mercy I decided to just go back to bed for an hour. Keely, who knows better than to bother getting up at first alarm, blinked at me and promptly went back so sleep.
Ahhhh, the glory of it!
I won’t say I’m strict about my morning routine, but I usually try to get out of bed between 4:30 and 5:15 am. Giving myself permission to just conk out for bit is not unheard of but also not something I allow too often. Given my druthers I for sure would just start sleeping in until 8 or 9 am and that, trust me, is a much harder habit to break.
That is all the lead up to this photo, which was taken at bit before 7 am, so you get the glory of the sunrise over the dark trees and lake.
This is one of my favorite kind of morning scenes, when the world at hand is still shrouded and muffled but the sun is cresting majestically over the horizon. I think of it as that crossroad between hope and resignation.
As you can see from the spray of a cloud in the sky it’s a clear, bright morning, so that’s nice. Going to be a balmy spring day.
Keely does not enjoy when I stop to take a photograph — I think she suspects I am going to try to take a photo of her, and that’s fair since sometimes I am! I don’t know what made her so camera-shy but she is firmly Against It. I’ll keep trying, though!
