The threat of rain hung over our heads, so while the weather app was telling me that rain was not due until mid-morning, the sky and humidity pressing down on us told me that it could burst open at any moment, and we ended up on a shorter walk than usual for a Saturday. Keely was not pleased.
We got out a bit before 7 a.m., and with spring progressing along that means the sun was (trying) to rise. Hidden behind the cloud layer it made the world dusky gray, but still well out of the pre-dawn gloom. Which is to say, usually when I walk past the Red Eye Coffee plaza, everything is closed and dark. This morning, though, the lobby was lit up and for the first time I saw the poster walls outside of the old Fifth & Thomas location. These have not been touched since the place went dark in March, 2020, and represent a bit of local history. This is how active the night life used to be around here:
It’s getting back to that, hell or high water or contagion rates. The going mantra everywhere is that things will be “back to normal” in fall, and while I want the pandemic to end as much as anyone, I also did not like “normal” all that much and do not look forward to it. A topic for another time, I suppose.
Keely was not pleased with the shortened walk, especially since my spidey senses were wrong and rain has not, as of the time of this writing, started downpouring yet. I guess the weather app was right for change, but how was I to know???? Keely is not forgiving. *sad face*
