dawn at Lake Ella

4/25/2021 – Sunday

Another two-fer walk morning! I got out by 6 a.m. to walk Keely, but I also got out at 7:15 a.m. to walk down to the store for a small grocery run. Now, we rest! …well, I rest, specifically, as Keely has been resting since she scarfed down breakfast after her walk. Ahhhh, a dog’s life for her!

The early walk was around Lake Ella as usual, since I did not want to do a long walk and then walk to the store. Conservation of energy, yada yada yada. The weather was a breezy 65°F so it was very pleasant for both of us. Keely always has a bit more kick in her when it’s cooler, so she pranced most of the way (she does not jog, she prances, and I am not sure the difference except to recognize that there is one). She’s staying off grassy areas, though, knowing that it is burr season. I’m picking them off her anyway by the cart load.

This photo is not of anything in particular, it just struck me as a very Florida dawn. If I am ever fortunate enough to leave this blighted hell state, this is the atmosphere of it I will remember kindly — the colors, the slant of the sunlight, the weedy grass, the low-slung flat lines of the landscape. It’s pretty in its own way, even if it doesn’t speak to me.

Also take a look at all those utility lines. Somehow they just don’t register as part of the landscape until you point them out in a photo like this.

Publix was mostly empty, as to be expected at 7:30 a.m. on a Sunday. I’m using the bones of a rotisserie chicken to make some soup later, and I needed seasonings for it. This makes me sound so domestic when I most assuredly am nothing of the sort, but I do like homemade chicken broth.
