A rare no-photo day, today. Everything was thrown wacky by long early-morning storms that did not let up until after 8 am. Keely, who is not bothered by storms at all but is very bothered by water in general, resigned herself to her dog bed to wait it out with only a few accusatory glares my way. Alas, my control over the weather is as absolute as it has always been, which is to say, absolutely nil. So we waited.
In the end we got out while the temperatures were still cool from the storm’s after affects, but it was damp enough already I steered us away from Lake Ella and up to Los Robles where, apparently, we were not the only ones who had waited out the weather. There were a lot of people walking their dogs, but we were all very polite about it and all dogs were on leashes, so Keely wasn’t even interested.
It would have been a good time for a photo, being bright and shiny, but I was distracted by a podcast. My friend KimM suggested “60 Songs That Explain the 90s” and it has been an utter delight. I of course know all the songs, even if just by osmosis from living through the 90s, so it is interesting to hear about the backstories and also the commentary on why each song in particular was chosen as representative — as a breakthrough, as a crossover, as a marker of change. The host is a genuine music fan of all the genres and speaks knowledgably about how songs were positioned back in the days before streaming media. I was listening to the Selena episode, and not surprisingly I was not a fan of Selena or even knew of her before her death. Therefore learning about her story and her rise from the vaunted distance of 25 years later was fascinating.
But the result is: no photo Sunday. Whoops!
