dawn at Lake Ella

6/18/2021 – Friday

Friday AGAIN! ahahaha…

Today’s photo is from last night, when I was walking Keely around the block — a trip up to Thomasville Rd, down to 6th Ave., over to Monroe St. and then back home on 7th. It’s not a long walk but long enough after work, when at this time of  year the sun is still high along with the temperature. As I was telling a friend on twitter, I am being more cautious with walks as Keely is definitely getting older and seems to be affected by the heat more.

There is a law office facing Thomasville Rd. that has this sign frame which they switch out with signs throughout the year for holidays and the like. I don’t remember if they’ve ever put a pride sign up before, but I saw this clever and artistic version and had to take a photo:

I like how with the slight wind the vibrant colors were shifting in a lively way. Don’t know how it will handle the heavy rains headed this way over the weekend (tropical storm Claudia isn’t set to hit us directly but it is broad and rain-heavy so we’re gonna get drenched, at least).

There is a lot of discourse in the LGBTQ+ community right now about commodification and assimilation, and those are important discussions to be sure, but it’s things like this that make my heart lighter. This kind of acknowledgement of our community was nearly unthinkable even in the mid-1990s. Right now with the pressures of right-wing conservatives, full of hate and bigotry and cruelty, it’s so affirming to see something as simple as this.
