dawn at Lake Ella

12/4/2021 – foggy bottom Saturday

Keely and I both slept in until about 6:30 a.m., so the sun was trying to break through the fog by the time we got out the door. As you can see, the sun was not entirely successful. I love the bleakness of this shot, for reasons I probably don’t want to explore at this junction:

very foggy intersection

I have finally recovered from the booster shot so we went on a longer walk, just a little over an hour. It was busy enough, especially for a Saturday morning. I do marvel sometimes at how “normal” the reduced traffic of the lockdown came to be for me, in that now when I see any traffic at all I’m surprised by it. As if I don’t know all these people exist? Of course I do but still I act shocked about it.

Interesting to note that the CaliFlo Yoga studio is no more — there is a “for rent” sign in the space now, and it’s already been emptied out. It’s in the same plaza as Einstein’s Bagels and Hummingbird Wine Bar, and I think that the only constant tenant for the past 10+ years has been the bagel place. Nothing else manages to make a go of it there, which is odd as it is a good location in mid-town. One of those mysteries.

If I had to guess, I think CaliFlo was done in by not offering very many classes throughout the week. Possibly they were hoping to build up to doing more classes but that plan didn’t work, if it was their plan.

So many empty places up for rent again; it looks like the little burst of optimism at the end of summer is waning. I do see some retrofitting going on at both the old Fox & Stag and the old Fire Betty’s locations at the Plaza at Midtown (where Red Eye coffee is), though.
