Careful observers of this blog will realize that there was no post yesterday. It was the first day of finals week, which is always a little unchained with schedules being upended and offices like mine being farmed out as impromptu testing rooms, but yesterday lived up to the sobriquet “Manic Monday” with technical problems, user errors, and waiting times that kept me occupied until late afternoon. So. Whoops?
This morning, though, things have calmed down just enough for me to squeeze this in.
Our walk was damp as there was some surprise!rain last night. I think it faded the fox’s scent, as Keely seemed to pick up on it here and there but kept losing it. In the meantime I saw this…interesting…line up of old magazine vending machines, all empty, set out as road blocks behind the New Times Country Buffet:
As I’ve mentioned, that building is either undergoing extensive renovations or is slowly being demolished by hand, it’s hard to tell which. At this point there is just a lot of trash around it and ladders that come and go, and now, this. They used to be set near the side entrance, and have been empty for (as long as I can tell) years. Totally unsure if this is an art installation piece, random homeless people messing around with stuff, or an actual attempt by somebody to block off the driveway. I think the mystery of it is the most interesting part.
Keely, displeased with the detour, the lack of any foxes to track, and the damp grass getting her precious dainty paws wet, collapsed on my bed when she got home and stayed there.
I’m really looking forward to fall break when I have three weeks to go back to bed along with her!
