dawn at Lake Ella

12/14/2021 – Tuesday (let the week begin!)

Today I am trying something different. I have noticed over the past few years that I don’t really “wake up” mentally until about 10 am. This is usually at least 4 to 5 hours after I officially get out of bed, which seems excessive so I’ve always convinced myself that it was a problem I could fix with coffee or meditation or….something.

To very little success.

A friend was talking recently about her journey in being diagnosed with ADHD and how she’s learning to lean into the unique way her brain works, and how doing so has made her both less stressed out and more confidant in her ability to accomplish the things she wants to do. It struck me that I should try the same approach. This week, no matter what time I wake up, I’m not going to start “work” until 10 a.m. If a project requires any kind of brain power, such as this blog, it just doesn’t happen until 10 a.m. That was often true previously, it just happened after several hours of me berating myself for not doing it yet.

Today was a first run for this new schedule and so far it feels really natural for me. I got up around 6 a.m., walked the dog, fixed some coffee, ate breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen, caught up on twitter and fanfic, and simply did not berate myself about it. Now it’s just after 10 a.m. and I have processed the photo for this post and, obviously, started writing it. I feel awake and ready to work! We’ll see how this carries over for the rest of the week, but I think it is going to go well for me.

Anyway, back to the plot:

Update on End Times Country Buffet:

Looks like the end times have actually arrived. The bulldozer was finally put to use, and this morning I was greeted with a pile of rubbish that was half the building:

the end for end times country buffet

The other half is still standing but clearly not for long. I still have no idea what’s going to happen after that, though. Will the empty lot be put up for sale? Not sure how well that will go for them, as the old Henry’s Radiator shop is still for sale and it is a truly excellent location in Mid-town (possibly asking too much?). Lots of empty properties around these days, businesses coming and going in quick turnaround.
