Hard to believe it is the middle of the month. It is just now going on 10:30 am as I write this, although I did start work around 10 a.m. like I planned. I was trying out some new techniques for photo editing in GIMP, something I find fun and interesting. I am not a photographer by trade so my photos need as much help as possible! Ha!
Today’s photo is actually from last night, and the GIMP cleanup worked wonders to make it clearer and more interesting. This is looking into the old Shell station store at the corner of 7th Avenue and Thomasville Road, also known as the Dreaded 5 Corners Intersection:
This convenience store closed down before the pandemic hit, and while I did not note the date I think it’s been empty for over three years now. There was a for-sale sign on the property for a long time, but that disappeared a while ago, although that has not resulted in anything being done other than the store getting further cleaned out (for the longest time it still had most of the shelving and counters and some equipment, but those were taken out a while ago). Not that you can tell, as it still has a lot of crap littered around inside. It’s an awkward location, absolutely terrible if you want any parking, but nonetheless in the heart of the ongoing gentrification of midtown so I’m sure someone will want to develop it eventually…
I’ve got more updated photos of the tear-down of End Times Country Buffet, which is roaring along now that it’s begun in earnest. No signs saying the property is for sale, though. I’ll post one tomorrow.
I really enjoy having a few hours in the morning just to mess about. I’d eventually like to use some of that time for yoga or dancing, and meditating, but for now I’m easing into the new routine…I understand that I’ve only got a couple of weeks to adjust to it before heading back to the office in January, but all in all, I’m looking ahead to the future and thinking about how I want to live my life. Making time to relax and be at ease in my skin is a priority.
