Truly glorious weather this morning, 58°F and only 75% humidity! I had to wear a hoodie; it’s officially autumn!!!!
In other news, someone saw their chance and took it:
I expect the sign to be replaced any minute now! LOL!
Our walk this morning was a mundane one around Lake Ella just as the sun was rising. Keely was prancing a bit more than usual, enjoying the cooler temperatures. On days like today I open the front door and block it off with a gate so Keely can sit by it and stare out at the world. I imagine her like the little old ladies of olde, sitting on her “porch” and watching the world go by with mild curiosity and a lot of naps.
Talking to a friend yesterday, I realized that it has been seven months since I resigned from FSU. Like most jobs I’ve had, once I left it was as if it never happened. I have memories of working there but I don’t have much (any?) emotional attachment to it. It was a job, and I was decent at it, and FSU (as an institution) did not value me as anything more than a cog in the wheel. I truly believe that in the future, the corporatization of higher ed will be considered morally reprehensible.
I’m on thin ice financially right now (I expect that to turn around before the end of the year) and it was a risk, but honestly, a bigger risk for my mental health would have been staying there. No shade on my colleague, only on the capitalistic system underpinning the organization. Such a shame.
