I have set the alarms back with the clock, since otherwise going out to walk at 7:30 am (as we have been doing) puts us in the crosshairs of the bright morning daystar. So today we got out around 6:45 am, when dawn was just starting to blush.
Lake Ella’s water table keeps dropping, but looks like we will get a major soaking on Thursday as TS Nicole sweeps over Florida. I’d rather have a few weeks of regular afternoon storms than this one major wet event for one day, but hopefully it will at least break the drought we’ve got going on.
We came across this puzzle laid out on a picnic table, and I did my part by placing one piece before taking this photo. I assume a lot of pieces are missing already but who cares, I love these kinds of unfinished stories — who put it there? Why?
In other news, today is Voting Day. It’s a massively important vote for the U.S.A. as a whole, but at least in Florida I just assume things will continue to be grim and christofascist-adjacent. I hate to be so pessimistic but that’s the how it is these days: hope for better, expect the worst.
I was listening to Rachel Maddow’s new podcast Ultra as I walked to the polling station, and that sure was a MOOD. I recommend the podcast a whole lot, it’s so well done (as expected of anything Maddow does, honestly) and is chilling, too. Everything old is new again.
