KimBoo York
Living on coffee and hope…
Who?
I’m KimBoo York and I enjoy telling stories, but otherwise I’m pretty trustworthy.
I used to be the kid who stayed up late at night reading books under the covers with a flashlight…and honestly not a lot has changed.
I’m a professional author who enjoys encouraging other writers to Write The Thing, and yes, I have a long standing love affair with fanfiction for which I will never apologize!
I’m over 55 years old and proud that I made it this far.
Education (if you care)
Master’s in Library and Information Studies (2012), Florida State University
Bachelor’s in Anthropology (1992), New College of Florida
OrigFic Transformative Use Policy
As a fangirl, the right to put media I love to the test by transforming it into fanfiction is something I protect ferociously.
As an author of original fiction, the right of anyone to put media I have created to the test by transforming it into fanworks is something I protect ferociously.
Fanworks policy:
Do whatever you want, however you want, but do NOT share it with me. For legal and ethical reasons I cannot read/view/watch your fanworks of my characters. I wish I could, I really do! You have NO IDEA how much I wish I could!!!! But I cannot. Any requests along those lines, or links to such works, will be immediately deleted.
Selling your fanwork: I know it happens, I don’t need to know about the occassional sale. If you are building a business, though, please reference the “Licensing policy” (below). I give very favorable rates to fanartists who want to sell related products for fans (keychains, enamel pins, commissioned art, etc.).
Derivative works policy:
If you want to take a world I have created and write a story in it featuring your own original characters, please feel free! Yes, that includes the commercial rights to sell your story without sharing the proceeds with me. It’s all yours, baby!
The limitation here is that you cannot use MY characters — that would be fanfic, and see above policy for that. I’m willing to allow cameos of my characters, as long as they only appear in one scene of your story. Of course your characters can talk about my characters as much as they want, and places and settings are free to use with no restrictions.
If you create a derivative work, please credit me and include links to my own story(ies) somewhere so people know that your story is set in one of my ‘verses. I will likewise be happy to promote your story!
Please understand, though, that whatever you write will not be considered “canon” for the ‘verse(s) as I write them. You will essentially be creating a “canon-divergent AU” of the canon’verse. I’m open to discussion about that for specific characters/historical events/etc. but my word is final.
Licensing policy:
I believe my transformative use policies for fanworks and derivative works (above) is pretty lenient and should cover most usage requests. However, if you are looking to adapt my own works or use parts of them for your project, you will need to secure licensing rights from me. Examples include but are not limed to:
- If you want to use my stories for adaptations (including but not limited to translations, movies, tv/web dramas, animations, podcasts, graphic novels, etc).
- If you want to include any of my characters in your derivative work (see above), no matter the format.
- If you want to produce and sell any kind of merchandise featuring my characters/stories.
Please email me at House of York for more information on licensing.
Keely Boo York
Most important thing to know about me is that I owned the best dog — the BEST, sorry, I don’t make the rules — who was adorable and occasionally cuddly. Sadly, she passed away on August 1, 2025, at the ripe old age of 17. I’m so glad I had her for as long as I did!
Keely Boo was a rescue with a mysterious past, and deserves a book series of her own. Or a tv show. Although admittedly she liked to sleep about 20 hours a day so it would not make for riveting drama!
Fandom Me
I have been a fangirl from the time I was very young. There is a whole story there about me falling into and out of “fandom” over the years, but I’m firmly ensconced in it now and plan to remain so.
I started out in 2007 writing fanfic on LJ, but that’s all been moved over to AO3. You can find my recent work here and my older stuff under the Cooper West (aka Mikey) nom de plume.
I expect readers to hold their end of the bargain, that being:
-
- Don’t like? DO NOT READ
- Under 18? DO NOT READ
- Mind the tags I put there, as you are responsible for your own reading experience.
Things you need to be aware of if you read my fic:
-
- I do not engage with antis of the puritan, anti-sex, and character bashing kind
- I am a multi-shipper
- I write M/M, M/M/F, and extended poly relationships
- I never write MCD
- I do conduct research for my fics set in real places/times, but I do not claim historical/cultural accuracy.
- I try to be actively anti-racist but as a white woman I know I’m not always hitting the mark. Please contact me if you have concerns about my work.
- I am open to constructive criticism/corrections!
- I am not open to hostility in any form, and I will delete comments directed at me or other readers if they are rude, hostile, or threatening.
- I tag my fic, and am always open to tags being suggested.
Fanfic Transformative Use Policy
Blanket permission to remix/transform/study:
You do not need to ask my permission to remix, podfic, translate, create art for or create secondary fanwork of any fanwork I have posted. I would love to have such work linked back to me/inspired by credit, if possible, because I adore seeing what great things people do with my meagre ideas!
If you want to use any of my fanworks in an academic study or as reference in an academic work or as part of a course you are teaching, you do NOT need my written permission to do so, nor do I require to be informed of it at all (although I admit I’d be curious if you do!)
Linking, Reposting, Reviewing:
-
- Feel free to link to my work from any platform you frequent (tumblr, twitter, fb, discord, myspace, etc.!).
- DO NOT REPOST MY WORK EVER ANYWHERE without my written permission.
- Please feel free to review/link my work on any platform you frequent and YES THAT INCLUDES GOODREADS. I am not here to police your fandom experience.
