I am a skeptic and a secular Jew, but I absolutely love things like tarot cards and astrology. A good friend recently described these kinds of interests as a form of pattern-matching, looking for meaning in everyday things and applying them to understanding our own perceptions and introspections, and that resonated with me. I’m super far from being mystical or spiritual, but enjoy the puzzle of finding meaning out of the random and not-random assortment of elements that make up my life.
Long lead-in to say that every morning, I pull a tarot card and reflect on what my reaction is to it, and what I can take from it into my day. Pretty basic stuff, honestly, and I don’t do things like layouts or “readings”. Just pull a card from a shuffled deck and think about how it does (or sometimes, does not) apply to what is going on.
A longer lead-in to say, hmmmm, the past three days? Have been an unusual run of the Pentacles suit. Yes, the deck is shuffled. I even re-shuffled it after pulling pentacles cards two days in a row. None were inverted. According to Wen’s Holistic Tarot (my fave guide), “Pentacles answer the Seeker’s questions about finances, comfort, industry, and tillage.” Hmmmmm.
Even more interesting they were in this order:
- Wednesday: 2 of Pentacles (time management, juggling priorities, multitasking; handling great potential and boundless possibilities; a very positive card, especially in regards to business and wealth)
- Thursday: Knight of Pentacles (representing a fundamentally good person with common sense who is reliable and can be counted on, especially financially)
- Friday (today): 9 of Pentacles (Prosperity, independence; material well-being; solitary enjoyment of the good things in life)
I admit, I’d love to believe these all symbolize something good for me on the horizon. I think it’s more likely that they show that I am psychologically willing to accept things like money, positive outcomes, and personal success…not something that has been true for me much in my past.
