dawn at Lake Ella

1/29/2023 – Sunday

Blustery, rainy, and chilly morning for us, so I was actually the first one up and about for a while. It was raining during our normal wake-up time so Keely noped out and decided to just keep sleeping! I’m so jealous. There was finally a break in the rain  between 9:00 and 10:00 am (more forecasted for later), so I went and harassed her until she deigned to get up and go outside to pee.

Her life is so hard, y’all:

Keely asleep on our bed.

But don’t worry, she got a yummy breakfast of kibble out of it!

In other news, I’m working on writing fiction first thing in the morning so that I can actually get to my writing goals, and it’s a big change for me so unsurprisingly my brain is being difficult! Turning away from my old morning routine in order to form a new one has definitely been challenging. “Old habits die hard” is a truism! But brains can be altered so I’m just plugging along, even if my word counts/advances are nothing to crow about. :/

If you’re curious, I’m rewriting the old story “Escape from Ice Mountain,” the first installment of the Dragon’s Grail series. If you have not seen me in person lately, then you have not had me excitedly telling you about the changes I’ve made, which are all mostly that I’ve aged up the protagonist from early 20s stereotypical young adult heroine to mid-forties “already tired of this shit” heroine, which is so much easier to write for me, and more interesting.

Not that 20-something young adults cannot be interesting! But I wanted a character with a lot of life experience (even if she has led a very isolated life, on the whole). It’s a much better story now, IMHO.
