dawn at Lake Ella

10/27/2022 – Thursday, so dry

This is a photo taken from the (ancient, unusable) boat ramp on the west side of Lake Ella; usually, the water line is up at that darker edge of gravel. There are small sandbars appearing out in the lake itself, which I’ve rarely seen happen.

Given that the whole pond is barely 3 feet deep in general (unless the rains have been heavy) this is kinda dire. This is the type of situation that leads to really bad fires if we don’t get rain soon, which by all reports we are not going to get soon. Keeping my fingers crossed that people don’t be stupid about burning rubbish out in the sticks. (This has never worked previously but…)

In other news, found out that the old Sōdough location is going to be another CBD shop. This will give Midtown a fancy CBD shop on every single block. Literally. Every block will have it’s own “CBD emporium.” Is this what it was like when automobile dealers were first ramping up in the 1920s? It’s just wild. In two years 90% of these places will be out of business, I’m betting.

The closed up, cordoned-off Sonic on Monroe and 8th is still closed up and cordoned off, not even a “for sale” sign to be seen. If the lingering “for sale” sign up at Old Henry’s Radiator Shop is any indication, commercial properties in Midtown are not selling like hotcakes anyway.
